
Pete Ryan is a smooth-talking con man, and bunco cop Frank MacBride is the man who put him away. When Pete gets out and Frank retires, they decide to form a detective agency using their knowledge of crime and cons to take down the bad guys. Helping them are their secretary Maggie and Pete's shady acquaintance, Malcolm.
Mac poses as a movie producer to get the goods on Anthony Kirk, an actor (Keir Dullea) who blackmails on the side. Switch has an amusing caper which takes full advantage of Universal Studios, where it is filmed. Keir Dullea plays an actor who uses disguises and blackmails actress Julie Sommars. The Simon family conduct "seances" on unsuspecting people, including a kindly lady whose nephew enlists Pete and Mac to expose the con artists. They come up with a plan, including a costly loan of $100,000—at 10 per cent interest per week—from a loan shark they know. They fake Pete's death, and Mac, posing as his father, remorsefully attends a seance for the big windup.
