
Perfect Strangers follows Balki Bartokomous, a humble sheep herder from a generic Mediterranean country called Mypos, who moves to Chicago to live with his American cousin, Larry Appleton.

After moving to Chicago, Larry Appleton gets an unexpected new roommate in his distant cousin, Balki Bartokomous, who comes from the small Mediterranean island of Mypos.

Larry tries to further his prospective photographer career by capturing a picture of Dolly Parton having an affair for a local tabloid.

Larry attempts to teach Balki the finer points of dating American women.

Balki learns to drive, which causes much stress for Larry.

Larry pushes Balki to open a checking account without explaining the basic principles of how it works.






Larry worries that Balki will become a compulsive gambler when the two win a trip to Las Vegas. However, while Balki enjoys a winning streak, it is Larry who develops a weakness for gambling. When Larry's luck proves to be more of the bad sort than the good, Balki must administer a reality check.
















Larry's sister Elaine comes to visit and Larry's not to thrilled about it.






Balki and Jennifer are trying to surprise Larry by buying him a new typewriter, but due to unforeseen circumstances Larry misunderstands them one night and believed they are having an affair.


After getting a beating by a bully while taking out Jennifer and Marry Anne to dinner, Balki and Larry start taking karate lessons.


Jennifer says she plans to move to L.A., but Larry doesn't do anything to stop her. Later he has a dream of what his life would have been without her.








Jennifer and Mary Ann have to go on the line to Paris to work and as Larry to call the plumber while they're gone in order to install the new shower. Larry decides to do the work himself in order to try and impress Jennifer. Naturally, it all goes awry.



Balki claims to have met Carl Lewis at a convenience store and had to lend him money because he forgot his wallet buy Larry is convinced that someone took advantage of his cousin once again.





































Balki's identical cousin Bartok comes up with a get-rich scheme. Unlike Balki, who has had a difficult time adjusting to American ways, Bartok has adapted easily to the seedier side of our country. He is a slick, fast-talking con man who gets on Larry's nerves even more than naive Balki.

Larry becomes a hospital volunteer to interview an injured football star.
