Former Russian KGB agent Viktor Kärppä has settled in Finland, the country of his ancestors. Now working as a private investigator, he is trying to forge a life of tranquility and order with his new girlfriend Marja Takala, an independent-minded academic who likes to keep thing simple. But then a kindly antiques dealer hires him to find his missing Estonian wife, which leads Viktor to a high-stakes robbery that appears to be the work of a well-known Estonian criminal.
To solve the double murder, Viktor turns to an old friend for help. But then he receives an offer that he can't refuse without putting the life of his girlfriend Marja in jeopardy.
