Tutto Dante is a theatrical show by Roberto Benigni, having as its central moment the exegesis of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, also accompanied by satire on more current topics. The show debuted in June 2006 in the Roman theater of Patras in Greece where Benigni recited and explained the song of Ulysses, the XXVI of Hell, obtaining a good reception from the public. In July 2006 the show took place for 13 evenings in Piazza Santa Croce in Florence where, next to the statue of Dante and in front of the large basilica, on a stage set up for the show, every evening Benigni recited - one per evening - thirteen cantos of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy: in particular, the cantos chosen for these evenings were the first ten, the XXVI and XXXIII of the Inferno and the XXXIII of the Paradise. The square was set up with 4,200 seats sold out every evening. The version of the show that Benigni subsequently toured focused on the V Canto of Inferno, known as the canto of Paolo and Francesca. After Florence, the Italian tour of TuttoDante debuted on 23 November 2006 in Catanzaro, and ended on 24 September 2007 with the show in Sulmona Prison. The show was performed in Italian squares, sports halls and stadiums for a total of 130 performances with an audience turnout of around one million spectators, of which 120,000 in Rome alone. To these must be added the over 10 million viewers who followed the television show "Il Quinto dell'Inferno" broadcast by Rai Uno on 29 November 2007 with a repeat on Rai International in the following days. Roberto Benigni expressed himself thus regarding the reception of the show by the public: "It was a wonderful job, I will keep this experience as one of the most important and exciting memories of my life". Starting from December 2008, an international tour of Tutto Dante took place, around Europe, the United States, Canada and South America. On March 6, 2009, the world tour resumed from Paris. The show achieved great success with audiences and critics. From 20 July to 6 August 2012 Piazza Santa Croce once again welcomed the actor and his exegesis of the Divine Comedy with twelve shows during which Roberto Benigni recited other songs from Hell: from XI to XXII. From 20 July to 6 August 2013 the actor returned to Piazza Santa Croce, still talking about the Divine Comedy, closing the last cantos of Hell: from XXIII to XXXIV.
