Overview
Formula One, the first weekly pop show on German television, debuted in April 1983. The program, which was broadcast in all third programs on ARD, showed all the newcomers to the German Top 75 (later: Top 100), the British and American charts, as well as other video clips, concert interludes, film tips and numerous stars and starlets who presented their latest hits in the studio setting - mostly modeled on a car repair shop. The show was produced in the Bavaria Studios in Munich. The show did not survive its move to the ARD afternoon program and a new focus on content (as a result of emerging competition from private television and channels such as MTV) for very long. In 1990, “Formula One” was finally discontinued after over 300 editions.
