Mal and his wife Jen's dream life quickly starts to go down the pan after they up sticks from Yorkshire to run an RV park in Florida.
The Pembertons pack up their home in not-so-sunny Yorkshire and head for Florida and the promise of beautiful weather at the Kissimmee Sunshine Park. What dad Mal discovers upon their arrival is ... not quite as he'd expected.
Having packed it all in for a life in the sun, things aren't quite going to plan for Mal, Jen and the kids. Mal's battling to keep the peace with burly park resident Troy and Tina and Freddie struggle to get to grips with life in an American high school. Meanwhile, Jen's in for an unexpected makeover when Rhonda invites her to a ladies' lunch.
The park's septic tank explodes and Mal and Jen are forced to turn to the only sewage expert around: Mayor Herman Bloch, the eccentric father of Tina's new boyfriend. Meanwhile, Freddie struggles to find his place at school, and Conan looks to take his and Tina's relationship to a whole new level... and it's not one Tina was expecting.
Troy's wrestling nemesis Krakatoa rocks up at the park and demands a rematch to settle old scores. Good news for Mal - he sees a chance to get some much-needed, free publicity and starts cosying up to Krakatoa. This seriously ruffles Troy's feathers and before he knows it Mal finds the whole fight thrown into jeopardy.
Thanks to a mistake by Mal, Jen's over-critical mum Maureen arrives in Florida three weeks early - much to Jen's horror. She's totally not ready and the park is in a real state so, instead, she whisks Maureen, Tina and Rhoda off to Paul's park for a weekend of pampering. Meanwhile, Mal and Freddie hatch a new money-making scheme - and it involves hosting a highly unusual wedding.
A lawyer's letter delivers Mal and Jen another blow. They need to track down the park's mystery co-owner. And to do so, they'll need the residents' help.
An attempted burglary triggers Mal to buy a gun and that means going behind Jen's back. And there are some very dodgy brownies on offer when they are invited to their new next-door neighbours. As for the kids, Tina tries to find a way to dump boring boyfriend Conan without breaking his heart and Freddie worries his mum when he starts falling for the class bad girl.
Visa problems force Mal to fire Jen from the RV park, putting a strain on their relationship. With no job to occupy her, Jen begins to worry that Freddie is dealing drugs. Meanwhile, Tina and Herman get together to plot Conan's future.
New employee Stacee sets about making big changes at the park, ruffling a few feathers in the process. Jen restarts her sports physio career, working for star golfer, TJ. While Mal and new resident Marvin go hunting for wild boar and end up in a whole lot of trouble.
Mal's turning 50 and is having a crisis of masculinity. The Park residents try to help him get through it with an ancient ceremony, while his family put on a surprise party. Tina's new role as high school investigative journalist puts her on the trail of a student putting on an illegal rave.
The park is up for a big award and Larissa reckons Jen should bring celeb TJ to the ceremony. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time...
There's bad news for Mal when Mayor Herman Bloch vows to shut the park if he's re-elected. There must be someone who will run against him...
