
Firehouse is a half-hour series focusing on the action-packed working lives of the men of Engine Company 23, These firefighters are Captain Spike Ryerson; his second in command, Hank Myers; Sonny Caputo, the company cook; Billy Dalzell, still in his probationary year, and Cal Dakin, who is the newest fullfledged fireman. The dedicated firefighters of Engine Company 23 become involved in engrossing human drama as they go about their job saving lives and property.
Captain Spike Ryerson and his firefighters succeed in getting a net under a suicidal "jumper." Then, on the way back to the station, they're called to a fire in an office building. Two window washers are stranded on the roof of the building while six employees are trapped in an elevator stuck at the 23rd floor where the fire is raging. Myers and Caputo attempt to reach the elevator, but Caputo is overcome by smoke. Meanwhile, Capt. Ryerson and Dalzell get to the roof by helicopter, rescue the window washers, and find that the only way to the fire is by the window washing scaffold.
After rescuing a man from a mudslide, Captain Ryerson and his men fight a fire at a prison, and several are taken hostage by convicts.

Captain Ryerson and his men struggle to save priceless art from a museum fire, not realizing that Inspector Frank "Grumper" Barkham of the arson squad is trapped in the building.
Smoke inhalation sidelines Captain Ryerson and temporarily leaves Company 23 with a new leader. He is a maverick from the fire prevention squad, and his performance is under the tough scrutiny of the men. (Final episode)
