The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret is a comedy about an inept American placed in charge of sales at his company's London branch. He has no experience with British culture, knows nothing about sales, and has only one employee, Dave. Each episode begins with a scene of Margaret appearing in dire circumstances — in season one, he is a defendant in a British court, with a long list of charges against him being read; in season two, he is in what appears to be a North Korean nuclear missile base, being forced to press a launch button — then flashes back to portray the events leading to his sad fate.

Follow part-time office temp Todd Margaret through his unexpected promotion, when he is chosen to lead the U.K. launch of Thunder Muscle, a new energy drink. To unload the toxic product, he resorts to self-promotion while under its influence and enlists the assistance of his colleague, Dave and newfound love interest, Alice.

Todd's new boss, Brent Wilts, turns up the heat to sell Thunder Muscle, so Todd hatches a plan to crack the British retail market. However, he leaves the practical execution to his colleague Dave because Todd has scored what he thinks is a first date with Alice.

Todd decides to launch Thunder Muscle with an advertisement featuring a celebrity endorsement – Dave sets up the meeting. Meanwhile Todd's "relationship" with Alice goes to the next level: dinner at her flat which ends promptly with the aid of a third wheel.

Just in time for Wilts arrival in London and demanding all of the money from Thunder Muscle sales, Todd finds his office to be empty of both the Thunder Muscle product and his sole-employee. Todd oversees the filming of his commercial and it seems he finally makes a breakthrough.

With Wilts now maniacally demanding results, Todd finally takes initiative with a publicity stunt guaranteed to get Britain buzzing about Thunder Muscle by promoting not only his product but also violence during a parade for a U.K. holiday. Meanwhile, Todd's former boss, Doug, is embarking on an investigation into Wilts' past.

With the lies spiralling out of control, Todd's world is falling apart, so he makes a final desperate bid for Alice's affections with an even more spectacular lie. Though Thunder Muscle is starting to sell, the various calamities Todd has embroiled himself in are starting to come to a head and Todd is finally caught in a room with lies all around him along with a stolen identity.

Picking up directly where season one left off, Todd has a lot of explaining to do.Trying to talk his way out of trouble, Todd only makes matters worse. As if things weren't bad enough, a giant supermarket chain wants to sue Todd for ten million pounds and the police want to question a man fitting Todd's description in connection with the sudden death of a member for Parliament.

Todd and Dave decide to take a trip to sell some Thunder Muscle. On the way, they stop at La Molecule, Alice's favorite restaurant, in an attempt to convince the chef to hire Alice so Todd can regain her favor. Todd complicates things by spinning a ridiculous lie.
