Overview
In the first year of Yongshi (16 BC), the scholar-bureaucrat Gongming upheld orthodoxy and opposed the deposing of Queen Xu, while his confidant Wang Mang and his family supported Zhao Feiyan in enfeoffing the queen. The two turned against each other and parted ways. Gongming was chased by Wang Mang's subordinate Zixiu and fell into a desperate situation.
