Thirty-one-year-old Leo Gorelick needs time to get over a recent break up and work on his comedy writing with his partner Trina. Unfortunately, he is the sounding board for everyone in his family, which includes: Marty, his twice-divorced surgeon brother; Jake, his egocentric father; and Mickey, his therapist mom, who still carries a torch for Jake even though they've been divorced for almost 20 years.
While preparing for his brother's engagement party, Leo encounters problems with their divorced parents. Dad's arranged a date for him and mom's looking for an apartment nearby.
Leo declares that he's going to stop lying, but soon discovers that old habits are hard to break. Meanwhile, he and Marty recall their children's camp experiences.
Things tend not to fly right after Leo doesn't get a ticket for speeding, but does receive a gift from Jake.
Leo tries to think of a catch phrase for his boss to use, while Marty bemoans his luck and Mickey makes a demo tape as a stand-up comic.
