In the unique and inimitable setting of the city of Palermo, the Corsaro brothers move. Fabrizio is a black journalist, Roberto is a criminal lawyer: for this reason they often find themselves forced to work on the same case. Impulsive and libertine Fabrizio, precise and calm Roberto, despite the constant bickering, will be able to solve even the most difficult of mysteries.

In the city, Francesca Raimondo and Rosaria Cangelosi are killed. On the surface, these two murders seem to have nothing to do with each other, but the Corsaro brothers discover that the two girls had been schoolmates. Perhaps the solution to the case is to be found in the past.

Fabrizio and Roberto Corsaro are dealing with two murders, that of an elderly widow and that of a priest. While for the elderly Concetta Rizzuto, the main suspect in the crime is her young Polish caregiver, who mysteriously disappeared, for Don Sorgi the trail seems to lead to mysterious secret sects. The investigations into the two murders will reserve more than one surprise for our two protagonists.

Fabrizio is sent to Castelferro to write about the murder of the municipal official Nicola Prestipino. The main accused is Fogazza, the mayor of Castelferro, who turns to Roberto for his defense. During his stay in Castelferro, Fabrizio meets Maria Librizzi, a young activist convinced of the mafia nature of the murder: a relationship begins between the two that, unlike Fabrizio's usual adventures, seems more serious. But there is no shortage of news between Roberto and Monica either.

Fabrizio decides to interview Onofrio Palillo, a man who was the victim of a serious miscarriage of justice, but when he goes to his house he discovers that he has been killed. Fabrizio's suspicious movements make him the main suspect in Palillo's death and the journalist ends up in prison. For Roberto - waiting for Monica to give birth - a race against time begins to discover the real culprit and free his brother.
