The story takes place in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, when corruption was rampant and public dissatisfaction boiled. Ye Feng (played by Liu Dekai) is a royal guard in the imperial court, but he has the spirit of a green forest hero. He specializes in killing corrupt officials. The traitors in the imperial court hate him deeply and want to get rid of him. On the way to be hunted, Ye Feng encounters his old friend Shi Ji (played by Zhou Chao), a young monk. Shi Ji's master and apprentice had no choice but to go to the capital to seek shelter because their temple was closed down by the government. Wei Yingjie (played by Li Jinrong), the son of Wei Chengtian (played by Zhang Guozhu), the Minister of Gu Ming, holds a high position of power, runs rampant in the capital and is domineering, no one dares to offend him. Seeing this scene, Shi Ji believed that only by getting the first prize and getting close to the emperor could he possibly eliminate harm for the people. Therefore, the talented and intelligent Shi Ji was named the number one scholar in high school and won the favor of the little emperor. Shi Ji used his special status to help the emperor implement the New Deal, and the two eventually became irreconcilable. Unexpectedly, the Queen Mother (played by Liu Xuehua) believed the slander and regarded Shi Ji as a thorn in her side...
