Overview
The story takes place in Nanjing in the 1930s. Yu Shuicun (played by Tong Dawei) is a young and promising painter. In an accident, he meets a singer named Taozhi (played by Sun Li). As time passed, Taozhi's beauty and integrity attracted Yu Shuicun's attention, and the two gradually came together. However, the huge differences in personality and identity caused many conflicts between Yu Shuicun and Taozhi. In the end, the lovers parted ways. Later, Taozhi became the wife of a bank tycoon, and Yu Shuicun, who witnessed all this, had to use alcohol to calm the pain in his heart. However, what Yu Shuicun didn't know was that Taozhi still loved him deeply in her heart, and she was even willing to sacrifice her own life in order to save him. Taozhi's sister Li Xiaotao (played by Yang Mi) is a singer. She is dissatisfied with her status and wants to enter the upper class, but she pays a heavy price for this.
