
Woody Paris, police Captain and loving husband, leads his team of detectives through the black and white and gray that constitutes the world of law and order. James Earl Jones stars as Woodrow (Woody) Paris, a captain of detectives on a metropolitan police force, who also moonlights as a professor of criminology at a local university, in "Paris," new hour-long series premiering Saturday, Sept. 29 (9:00-10.00 p m ) on the CBS Television Network. In addition, Woody is a very happily married man of long standing, and playing his wife is Lee Chamberlin. Also starring are Hank Garrett, Cecilia Hart, Jake Mitchell, Frank Ramirez, and Michael Warren. Garrett is seen as Deputy Chief of Police Jerome Bench, Paris' boss and close friend, Cecilia Hart, and Mitchell, Ramirez, and Warren appear as members of a special Metro squad under Paris' direct supervision.
In the premiere episode, Paris is summoned to an influential councilman's home as he leaves the campus after class one evening. The councilman, Julius Wellman, has returned from a staff meeting to discover the lifeless body of his wife. The immediate supposition is that she awakened during a burglary, was beaten by the culprit and fell, striking her head against a table. At home, mulling over the case with his wife. Barbara, Woody is perplexed by a number of slightly out-of-kilter facts. The investigation proceeds and startling evidence is uncovered, but, before the investigation is wrapped up, Paris finds there's more to the case than manslaughter and burglary.
