
The 4400 explores the travails of the 4400 people who all at once returned in a ball of light to Earth; though the returnees had not aged physically, many of them reappeared with dramatic abilities ranging from enhanced reflexes to precognition. NTAC (National Threat Assessment Command) is the government agency responsible for keeping track of the returnees and investigating all things related to the 4400.

Peter Coyote stars as an agent who investigates the simultaneous return of 4400 people who went missing over several decades. In the opener, none of those returned have any memory of what happened and none have aged.

Tom and Diana investigate a supermarket employee who returned from his 18-month odyssey with enhanced strength and reflexes and is using his powers to combat crime in his neighborhood. Elsewhere, the pregnant Lily believes her baby can communicate with her; and Diana, concerned about 8-year-old clairvoyant Maia, invites the girl to live with her.

The public begins to turn on the 4400.

Firebombings threaten the 4400 when their names and addresses are made public.

Tom's son Kyle is taken into custody by Lyttel, and Diana offers to help bust him out. Elsewhere, Danny tries to win back Nikki.

Jordan cashes in on his abduction by opening a 4400 center; and Tom is restored to duty by the NTAC's skeptical new chief . Meanwhile, Diana adopts Maia; and Richard, Lily and their baby hide from Jordan and the NTAC in a remote cabin.

Lily and the baby are hunted by a shotgun-toting preacher; Tom and Diana try to isolate the cause of the strange behavior at the hospital; Diana discovers Maia's diary; and Shawn contacts Kyle.


Richard is forced to cope with his infant daughter's sudden transformation into a woman and a horrendous change in his wife, Lily. Meanwhile, Dennis Ryland is injured during Congressional hearings, and the person responsible may be part of a radical 4400 splinter group.

Tom and Diana continue to pursue the Nova Group; Maia starts school at the 4400 Center; Isabelle gains new insight into her role in the future.


The NTAC deals with a new director and a high-school student who developed a special ability after taking promicin. Meanwhile, Tom visits Isabelle in prison and Diana searches for her sister, who took promicin.

When atrocities are linked to a 4400 with the ability to heal damaged chromosomes in utero, NTAC finds itself in a troubling international political cross fire.
