Due to his family's financial difficulties, he was sold into a bookstore in Qinghefang by his stepmother. When he was a boy, Liu Gongzheng had a crush on Ru Bing but never confessed to her. However, Tong Guangfu and Gu Yecheng once acted as matchmakers. Ru Bing was attracted by the old eunuch Ming Gonggong who left the palace. He wanted to make her his wife and asked her to renew the incense in exchange for redemption. In order to save Liu Gongzheng, Rubing agreed to Ming's father-in-law's request and gave birth to a son and a daughter with Liu Gongzheng, but the two never got married.
