Overview
At the end of the Qing Dynasty, on the eve of her marriage, a young girl Yin'er (played by Liu Ruoying) was forcibly summoned into the palace. She and her sweetheart Rongqing (played by Huang Haibing) were far apart. They followed the belief that they did not seek to live together but to die together, and looked forward to the day they would meet again. When she first arrived in the palace, Yin'er didn't know much about everything, so her aunts taught her everything. From then on, she began a life of almost death, serving successively the Empress Dowager Cixi (played by Siqin Gaowa), Concubine Zhen (played by Jiang Wenli) and Emperor Guangxu (played by Qiu Xinzhi). Outside the palace, Rongqing traveled to nine cities, never forgetting his agreement with Yin'er. Along with the crumbling late Qing empire, they experienced a series of historical events that happened at that time. A pair of little figures inside and outside the palace walls drifted here and there like leaves, involuntarily following the turmoil of the current situation and the grievances in the palace. Finally, with the special permission of the Queen Mother, Yin'er and Rongqing were reunited after ten years of separation. However, Yi fulfilled her original promise and both died on the wedding night...
