In 1952, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps recruited female soldiers in Shandong. In order for the recruitment to go smoothly, Deputy District Chief Hao Yulan was forced to put her marriage on hold and took the lead in signing up to join the army. She led a group of Shandong women such as Erman, Zhao Feng and Hu Cai'e to Xinjiang. In the life of farming, these Shandong women and the soldiers of the Corps fell in love one after another and started families.
