44 B.C. In 400 BC Julius Caesar returns to Rome with his legions after a successful campaign against the Gauls. Despite his success as a general, he antagonizes his son Brutus and the senators, who murder him shortly afterwards. Caesar's confidant Sertorius gives the dying man his word that his 17-year-old nephew Octavius will be his successor. The young patrician is immediately confronted with powerful enemies, as Caesar's murderers want to wipe out his entire bloodline...
